Rodri will be unveiled as a Barcelona player tomorrow after the Spanish champions agreed a deal to sign the Manchester City midfielder.
Manchester City have accepted a bid of £65.4m for the 30-year-old, who had expressed his desire to return to La Liga. Rodri’s deal at the Etihad is due to expire in 2027 and the Cityzens have reluctantly accepted his wish to leave now.
The World Cup-winning captain will travel to Barcelona to undergo a medical on Monday night, report Sky Sports, before his official presentation tomorrow.
Rodri returns to La Liga after seven seasons in the Premier League, in which he won four league titles and the Champions League among his honours. Having starred for Spain during their 2026 World Cup success this summer, earning the Golden Ball award, he informed City of his desire to return to his homeland.
City will now work to bring in a replacement before the transfer deadline on September 1st. Enzo Maresca’s side are pushing to sign Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi and also hold an interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez. However, Chelsea are insistent that Fernandez will not leave after City failed to meet their £120m asking price before their club-imposed deadline of Friday14th August.
