Rodgers: Celtic shows their ‘true face’ during crucial RB Leipzig win

Celtic kept their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the Europa League alive tonight, by securing a crucial 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig at Celtic Park.

The Hoops got off to a perfect start when left-back Kieran Tiernay put his side ahead after just 11 minutes.

However, it looked like the hosts hopes of progressing in Europe where fading when Jean-Kevin Augustin headed home for Leipzig in the 78th minute, but Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard stroked home from close range less than a minute later to hand Brendan Rodgers side a much needed three points.

Speaking after the game Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers praised his sides performance in Rodgersesque fashion.

“We brought our true face to the game. The players fought for every ball and we showed quality when we had it.’’ Rodgers told the BBC.

“The most important thing was to get the win. There are still a few games to go and we’ll do our best.

“Tonight was a great step forward for this group. This was a pressure game that we needed to win and we played with no fear.”

Celtic and Leipzig are now tied on five points, although the German sides superior head-to-head goal difference gives them the edge, with RB Salzburg having already won Group B with 12 points.
