Bayern Munich Arjen Robben believes Liverpool centre half Virgil Van Dijk “deserves all the complements” after his recent form for the Premier League leaders.
Dutch legend Robben has praised how much Van Dijk has developed, although he stopped short of calling his former international teammate the best defender in the World.
“I do not know if he is the best defender in the world,” Robben said at a press conference in Germany.
“Other people are allowed to judge that, but I’m happy for him. He has made big strides lately, just look where he comes from.
“He has grown as a player, but also as a personality, I am happy for him, where he is at the moment. He is a key player at a gigantic club, and he is the captain of the Dutch national team. He deserves all the compliments.”
Van Dijk has been sensational for Liverpool since his £75 million transfer from Southampton last January.
He has helped his club reach a Champions League final and engineer the best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season. The 27-year-old centre-half will face Robben in the last 16 of the Champions League next month.
