Report: VAR to be trialled in next round of Premier League games

VAR testing will take place for all 3 pm kickoffs in the next round of Premier League games after the international break, it has been announced today.

The main purpose of the tests is to see if the VAR Hub, which is located in Stockley Park close to Heathrow Airport, can handle when multiple incidents occur, across multiple games, at the same time. However, these are only tests and the VAR team will have no contact with the officials in charge of the games.

Premier League clubs voted last April to wait to introduce VAR, but The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) are hopeful that if the latest round of tests are successful then will then be able to convince EPL stakeholders to introduce VAR for the 2019/20202 season.

Like last season VAR is scheduled to be used for selected Carabao and FA Cup games this season.
