Report: Manchester United will make Maguire bid before transfer deadline

Manchester United are preparing a bid for Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire before the transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday.

United boss Jose Mourinho has made signing a centre-back a priority this summer, although he has so far been frustrated in his attempts to bring a new defender to Old Trafford, with the 20-time league Champions heavily linked with moves for England star Maguire, Spurs Toby Alderweireld and Barcelona powerhouse Yerry Mina.

Reports broke overnight suggesting that Manchester United had finally agreed a £60 million deal with Spurs for Alderweireld, although Sky Sports are now reporting that Maguire is still Mourinho’s number one target and he has asked his club to prepare a bid for the £65 million rated centre-back.

Leicester are said to be adamant they will not sell the former Hull City defender this summer, having already lost Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City at the start of the window.

Ironically, United will face Leicester in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford next Friday, and only time will tell whether Maguire will be wearing a Blue or Red jersey.
