Report: De Gea agrees record Manchester United deal

David de Gea has agreed a new contract with Manchester United according to reports in Spain.

While there have been reports for a number of months that De Gea is happy in Manchester, reports from Spain have been insistent that Real Madrid are maintaining their interest in the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Reports as recent as least week even claimed that Real Madrid were confident that that they could secure the Spaniard’s services with a world record bid for a goalkeeper of £100 million.

However, Marca are now reporting that the Spain number 1 has agreed a new deal at Old Trafford which will see him stay in the Premier League until 2023.

He has reportedly agreed a new five-year-deal with last season’s English runners up, where he will become the world’s most well paid goalkeeper, earning a whopping £350,000-a-week after tax (€21m a year).

De Gea almost made a move back to his home town club three years ago, when United agreed a part exchange deal with Real Madrid, with would have seen Keylor Navas moving in the opposite direction, only for the deal to break down at the 11th hour.

Despite his poor start to this summer’s World Cup, he has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in recent years, and keeping him out of the clutches of Real Madrid for a second time will be a major coup for Manchester United.
