Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is expected to leave the club this summer after negotiations over a new contract broke down.
According to reports in the Daily Star, despite months of talks, no agreement could be found between the players representatives and the Stamford Bridge hierarchy to extend his current deal that runs until 2019.
Champions League finalists Real Madrid and Liverpool are now the two favourites to secure the talented shot stoppers’ signature, with both clubs looking to replace their current goalkeepers this summer.
Although, the 26-year-old has not had the best of seasons in a struggling Chelsea side, but he is still considered to be one of the best ‘keepers in world football.
Courtois was signed by Chelsea from Belgian side Genk in 2011. He was then sent to Spain on loan where he enjoyed a successful three season loan spell with Atletico Madrid before returning to London in 2014 and displacing Chelsea legend Petr Cech as the club’s first choice keeper.
He has won an impressive two Premier League titles in his four seasons at Stamford Bridge, and whichever club does win the race for his services will be getting a player with his best years still ahead of him.
