Release clause for Man United target not valid until 2025

Manchester United have been dealt a blow with the release clause of Gleison Bremer not valid until the 2025 summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag has made Bremer a leading transfer target ahead of the summer as the Red Devils look to strengthen at centre-back.

The Brazilian has established himself as one of the leading defenders in Serie A during spells at Torino and Juventus and has been named in the division’s Team of the Year in consecutive campaigns.

Chelsea and Tottenham have also checked in on the progress of the 27-year-old, who featured as a late substitute during Brazil’s 1-0 win over England this month.

Reports of a release clause of €60m (£51.3m) had increased hopes of a potential deal for Premier League clubs, though Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bremer’s get-out will only become active in 2025.

Juventus have a ‘verbal pact’ to consider bids of the same amount at the end of the season but any final decision will come from Juventus and could hinge on whether the Bianconeri can source a credible replacement.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side have been linked with Giorgio Scalvini, though have been priced out of a previous pursuit with Atalanta only considering bids in excess of €50m. The sale of Bremer could help fund a deal for the 20-year-old who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Italian football.

Manchester United, meanwhile, also hold interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo.
