Real Madrid begin their UEFA Champions League journey this Tuesday with a high-profile showdown against Italy’s titleholders, Inter Milan, at the iconic Estadio Bernabéu.

Los Blancos arrived into the new campaign looking unstoppable, tearing through their opening La Liga fixtures with three straight, goal-filled wins. They crushed Real Sociedad 4–1, were involved in a wild 4–4 draw with Málaga, and then narrowly beat Espanyol. But that perfect record came to an abrupt halt just days ago, when they suffered a surprising 1–0 loss to Real Betis—a game marred by a crucial missed penalty late on.

Real Madrid team news

Ahead of this Champions League opener, Real Madrid are dealing with a serious shortage of midfield options and a growing injury list.

Manager José Mourinho is left with a tough selection puzzle, as several players are suspended from last season’s European campaign: Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Güler, and Bernardo Silva are all unavailable.

Things get worse in the treatment room, with defensive midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni struggling with a muscle problem and very unlikely to play.

On top of that, important defenders Éder Militão and Ferland Mendy are out, along with attacker Rodrygo and Raul Asencio.

Endrick and Marc Cucurella are being assessed late, so Mourinho will need to improvise. Jude Bellingham is expected to move into a deeper midfield role alongside Federico Valverde, while fresh arrival Yan Diomande is likely to start out wide.

Meanwhile, ex-Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries is set to cover at right-back.

Real Madrid predicted lineup

Possible Real Madrid starting XI: Courtois; Dumfries, Konate, Huijsen, Cucurella; Bellingham, Valverde; Diomande, Diaz, Vinicius Jr; Mbappe

When will the match kick off?

The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Tuesday, 8th September.
