Manchester United could have started their summer recruitment already after one Real Madrid star admitted that the Red Devils have made contact.
Yesterday, we brought you the news of reports which suggested the Jose Mourinho was looking to bring in at least four players to the club this summer, with central defence thought to be one of the key area’s set for investment.
Mourinho has already spent £60m on signing Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof over the last two summers. While Bailly is undoubtedly the best central defender at the club, Lindelof has struggled to make an impact since his £30m move from Benfica.
It is thought that the Portuguese wants to bring in a new centre back to partner Bailly, with Toby Alderweireld and Samuel Umtiti both having been linked.
However, reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane is still an option having been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a number of years.
The 24-year-old has previously worked with the current United boss during his time in charge at the Bernabeu, and he has now confessed their has been some contact with United.
When asked about contact from Mourinho, he told El Larguero: “No, not directly. There were contacts, but not directly.”
In other news, Man Utd centre back Marcos Rojo has extended his current contract which now runs until 2021. Full details here.
