Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is Manchester United’s number one transfer target according to reports.
There has been plenty of discussions about Manchester United’s midfield in recent weeks, especially surrounding the performances of £89 million man Paul Pogba, who has been out of form in recent matches.
It has been rumoured that Pogba has asked Jose Mourinho to be utilised in a midfield three, although Mourinho quickly responded by saying United did play in that system against Newcastle, a game which his side lost and Pogba played absolutely terribly, again.
United have been linked with a variety of midfielders in recent weeks, such as Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal, Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Monaco’s Fabinho.
However, according to the Independent, the clubs number one choice is Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos.
Despite some speculation that Pogba could leave the club in the summer, the report says that United want Kroos to play with the Frenchman, rather than as his replacement.
He would be a replacement for Michael Carrick however, who is retiring at the end of the current campaign.
United have had a long standing interest in the German midfielder, and were close to signing him in 2014 before he ultimately moved to the Spanish capital.
The move to Old Trafford, which had largely been agreed by David Moyes, broke down after the Scot was sacked and replaced by Louis van Gaal.
