Real Madrid ‘expected’ to make opening bid for Man City star Rodri

Florentino Perez is willing to spend up to £51m on the World Cup winner.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning to submit a bid to Manchester City for Rodri in the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos have long admired the midfielder, who captained Spain to victory in the FIFA World Cup earlier this month.

The 30-year-old has been a lynchpin in City’s team since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in a £62.6 million deal in 2019, winning four Premier League titles and scoring the winning goal in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final.

According to Sky Sports News, Real have made “initial contact” with City over a potential transfer and are “expected to make an offer”.

The Spanish giants are said to be “willing” to pay between £43m-£51m (€50m-€60m) for Rodri, who has just one year remaining on his contract.

City would rather lock the player down to a new long-term contract than sell him this summer, as they “want him to lead the team into the new Enzo Maresca era”.

Real are “ready to make their move” having already signed a number of big names from the Premier League, including Marc Cucurella from Chelsea and Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva after their respective contracts with Liverpool and City expired at the end of last season.

Rodri is currently recovering from back surgery and will likely miss City’s opening Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
