As the dust finally starts to settle on Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation as Real Madrid manager, fans of the Spanish giants have decided that they want Jurgen Klopp as their next manager, and not Mauricio Pochettino.
Zidane’s departure – which came just five days after he guided Los Blancos to their third consecutive European title under his stewardship – has been one of the biggest stories of the year so far. However, as is often the case in these situations, no sooner has the outgoing manager vacated his seat, speculation as to who will be his replacement begins.
The shock early favourite was former Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, who finally brought the curtain down on his 22 year career at the Emirates just a few weeks ago.
Less of a surprise was Mauricio Pochettino being one of the front runners for the role, which he has been linked with for a number of months, despite signing a new deal at Tottenham just a matter of days ago.
However, Spanish newspaper AS has conducted a poll to gauge the opinion of Real’s fans, and it is in fact Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who they want as their next manager.
The German has been a success wherever he has been, whether it be at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and now at Liverpool.
It seems like fans of the European Champions have been able to admire the style of football that Klopp has brought to Anfield, with his Mo Salah led side seemingly scoring goals for fun both domestically and in Europe, where they finished as the Champions League’s highest goalscorers this season.
The poll revealed that of the 120,000 votes cast since Zidane’s departure, an impressive 41% of the votes went to Klopp. Mauricio Pochettino was second favourite with 34%, while Joachim Löw (15%) and Arsene Wenger (9%) completed the top four.
