Real Madrid ‘advancing with confidence’ on Mbappe deal

Real Madrid are ‘advancing with confidence’ on a deal to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season and his future has dominated the headlines since last summer, when the Frenchman informed PSG that he had no intention of signing a new deal with the club.

Real Madrid have been long-time suitors of the 25-year-old and have twice failed with previous bids to sign the forward, though confidence is increasing in Madrid amid widespread reports that Mbappe has decided on a move to Spain at the end of the campaign.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Spanish side are confident a deal will be agreed, despite no formal communication from Mbappe’s camp to PSG. Mbappe is understood to have made a pact with PSG to keep the club informed on his decision and an announcement is expected soon.

Mbappe’s expected move to Madrid will be the result of a long chase from Los Blancos, who believed a deal was done to sign the France captain in 2022, only for Mbappe to sign a contract extension in Paris. A year earlier, the Spaniards failed with a €200m (£171m) proposal.

Mbappe has scored a record-breaking 241 goals in 288 games for PSG and has finished as Ligue 1’s leading scorer in five straight seasons. He has won the division’s Player of the Year award in four of those five campaigns but is open to an exit as he chases elusive Champions League success.
