As the La Liga fixtures got announced, all the fans indulged in a discussion about how they feel about their teams fixtures. Here are the thoughts of the Madridista.
Real begin their title defence with a trip to Deportivo La Coruna. Los Blancos have been hugely successfull versus Deportivo and are expected to start off with a comfortable win. Out of the first 10 fixtures, three are against newly-promoted sides, and two against sides who finished 15th or lower.
Fixtures against Sociedad, Alaves and Espanyol will be a good test for the Real squad due to the clubs’ good performances last season. Alaves have been particularly active in the transfer window so far, with a total of 11 signings.
Valencia can also prove to be difficult, but with the game being at the Bernabeu, the possibilities of that are low.
Arguably the hardest patch of games this season, Real have to face Sevilla, Atletico and Barcelona in a period of six games. Leganes will be the easiest fixture on paper, followed by Las Palmas. The outcome of the rest of the games will be very interesting to say the least.
The so called ‘B’ team will have to come in clutch in this period due to the frequency of tough fixtures.
Now of course, these fixtures are the same as the first 10, but will be very important for Real. Picking up maximum points in this patch will be possible due to the matches being against weaker teams. Barcelona’s games are significantly harder in this period than that of Real’s, and that is where Zidane’s men will look to capitalise.
The business end of this season will be extremely difficult as previously mentioned. Atletico, Barca and Sevilla among other decent teams. Barcelona’s fixtures will not be so hard, but are also capable of proving to be difficult.
Picking up maximum points in the first few games will be vital in Real’s title defence due to a host of tough fixtures afterwards. Zidane’s men will have to play like they did towards the end of last season to guarantee successive titles. Champions League matches will prove to be problematic but the ‘B’ team system like last season should be enough to handle the league and the Champions League pressure.
