Ranieri: Mahrez unsettled by Arsenal interest

Riyad Mahrez has been left unsettled by the speculation surrounding his future, that is according to Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri.

The 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year is the subject of transfer interest from Arsenal, who have reportedly made a £35million move for the Algerian winger.

The reigning Premier League champions are keen to fend of interest from the Gunners and get Mahrez to sign a new deal at the King Power stadium, where his contract currently runs until 2019.

Ranieri said:

Maybe Riyad is distracted a bit by all these rumours and speculation.

But that is also an experience for my players.

It is important that he understands that he should stay with us.

He has to improve his fitness and play for the team as well last season.

Leicester have already fended off Arsenal’s interest once this summer, as Jamie Vardy described the decision to stay with the club as ‘easy’ despite Arsene Wenger matching the strikers £20million release clause earlier this year.
