Raheem Sterling backed by unlikely source in battle with tabloid Press

Manchester City and England attacker Raheem Sterling has been the target of a pretty disgraceful smear campaign by certain sections of the British tabloid press over recent years.

Of course there are large amounts of society that are intelligent enough to see through the media’s actions, although sadly there are just as many people out there who really are that stupid that they take what they read in ‘’the rags’’ as actually being true, which has even resulted in Sterling being kicked, punched and abused by a stranger before a Man City game last season.

However, Sterling has now been given the backing of boxing promoter Eddie Hearn who has revealed a heartwarming story of when he met the former Liverpool man of holiday with his kids:

“I saw Sterling in Ibiza,” Hearn told IFLTV.

“He was on the beach and, actually, I would like to say this…

“Sterling, I’ve never met him before – I know he knows AJ (Anthony Joshua) and stuff like that – he has obviously had a lot of stick from the media and stuff.

“Let me tell you about Sterling. He was on a beach in Ibiza with his family. It was packed, it weren’t a swanky beach. I was there with my kids and my friend was there with his kids.

“I’ve got two girls and they don’t know who Sterling is, although from the World Cup they probably do. My friend’s got two boys and they went ‘that’s Sterling’ and he said ‘it’s not Sterling, he ain’t going to be just here’.

“Anyway I noticed from the tattoo funnily enough, and they were like ‘can we go and see him’ and I thought ‘leave him, he’s just come back from the World Cup’.

“In the end I went over and said ‘how you doing mate?’. He played football with these two kids on the beach. They were doing kick-ups for five minutes and I was like ‘alright lads come on’ and he was like ‘nah, it’s alright’.

“So first impressions last. Don’t judge someone ’til you know them. Now I don’t know Sterling but all I can tell you is, after that experience, what a guy to do that.

“These two boys have not stopped talking about it since so ‘big up to Sterling’ is all I can say.”
