Benitez aiming for three points from ‘important’ Cardiff game

Rafa Benitez has claimed that his Newcastle team will be going for all three points when they play Cardiff City at St James’ Park this Saturday.

The Magpies are just one point behind Neil Warnock’s side so Benitez knows a win would lift Newcastle out of the relegation zone. However, Benitez is wary that Cardiff will be intent on stifling Newcastle at every opportunity.

“From the beginning, Cardiff will try to stop our team doing what we want to do,” said Benitez at his pre-match press conference.

“It’s an important game, but we still have a lot of games to play. We will go for the three points.

“We know where we are and we know we have to stick together and keep working hard.”

The teams drew 0-0 at the Cardiff City stadium in August in a match where Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden was sent off and Kenedy missed a 96th-minute penalty for the away side.

With all the behind-the-scenes turmoil continuing under Mike Ashley’s ownership, Newcastle would be doing very well to secure their Premier League status come May.
