Pulis reveals he was ‘delighted’ to see Smith get Aston Villa job

Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis has expressed his delight that Dean Smith was appointed Aston Villa manager earlier this season.

Smith was appointed Aston Villa manager following the sacking of Steve Bruce in early October, and Smith was appointed head-coach with Villa taking their man from Championship side Brentford.

And Pulis has lauded the appointment of his counterpart ahead of the two sides clash at the Riverside tomorrow.

“It’s a new season and another game against another club. I was delighted to see Dean (Smith) get the job having down well in the lower leagues with Walsall and Brentford, and it’s a great reward for him and I’m sure he’ll do well there.’’ Pulis told his pre-match press conference.

”Dean will see areas that are weak that he will strengthen, but he’s got plenty of firepower in his squad and he’s got one of the strongest squads going forward.”
