Hojlund’s showings last season have attracted the attentions of both Manchester United and PSG, with the Red Devils making a verbal offer for the 20-year-old on Wednesday.

United’s offer for the Dane was worth an initial €50m (£42.8m) plus an extra €10m (£8.5) in add-ons, though Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Italian side want €70m for the striker.

Now, according to French publication L’Equipe, PSG have submitted an offer of their own, though say that their offer comes in at €50m, lower than the overall package offered by the Premier League side.

The report adds that the Ligue 1 side are ‘awaiting the response from the Italian club’, though they ‘do not want to go any higher’ than their current bid for the player.

Aside from their bid being lower than that of Manchester United, the player himself is believed to prefer a move to Old Trafford having already admitted himself to be a ‘huge’ United fan.

“Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan,” he said earlier this year. “So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point.”

Speaking after their 2-0 pre-season defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that the club were working on a deal to sign a striker.

“We are working 24/7,” he told MUTV. “We do and everyone, well not everyone, but a lot in the club, and we give all the power to get this done. We never talk about players under contract with another club, so we have our targets in the background. We are busy with it to get the right player to sign a contract for us.”
