Premier League the ‘dream destination’ for Arsenal and Spurs target, Upamecano

The Premier League is the ‘dream destination’ for Dayot Upamecano according to reports in Germany, following speculation linking the defender with a move to Arsenal and Tottenham.

The RB Leipzig youngster is amongst the most highly-rated young defenders in world football at present and continues to be linked with a move away from the Bundesliga side, with several of Europe’s elite believed to be monitoring his progress in recent months.

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, alongside the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, have all been credited with an interest in the 21-year-old, though the Premier League duo will be encouraged by reports suggesting that English top flight is the centre-back’s preferred destination should he leave Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

According to Bild, Upamecano views the Premier League as his destination of choice, whilst the Frenchman is also reported to possess a release clause of £50m in his contract at Leipzig which is set to expire in 2021.

Upamecano has impressed since moving to German football from Leipzig’s sister club RB Salzburg, making 24 appearances in all competitions this season for Leipzig who currently sit second in the Bundesliga title race and have progressed to the Champions League knock-out stages for the first time.

The German side will face Spurs in the first leg of their last-16 meeting later this month, and Jose Mourinho will get to have another look at a player reportedly amongst his chief targets this summer, having travelled to Munich to watch the recent game between the Bundesliga top two.
