Premier League Match Preview – Manchester United host Liverpool in a highly anticipated match just weeks after their dramatic FA Cup clash.
The Reds are looking to end yet another week top of the pile, but will have to do something they’ve already failed at twice this season – win against Manchester United – who are also fighting for their lives in the race for the Premier League’s top four.
Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s fixture.
Form
Manchester United: LWWDL
Man United’s whirlwind of a campaign took several more twists and turns on Thursday evening in a 4-3 loss away at Chelsea. The Blues hadn’t beaten the Red Devils since 2020, and it looked like that winning streak would continue for United as they found themselves 3-2 ahead with 95 minutes on the clock.
However, for a second consecutive game United cracked at the death. Two stoppage-time goals from Cole Palmer snatched all three points for the West London side, leaving United fans in utter shock at what they were witnessing.

The result was only their second loss on the road since December, yet it leaves them 12 points behind Aston Villa with eight games remaining.
Adding to United’s misery is their growing injury list. Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans are the latest names that are in doubt, joining the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof on the sidelines.
Liverpool: DWLWW
Liverpool are unbeaten in seven Premier League matches after a 3-1 victory at home to Sheffield United on Thursday. The Reds found themselves on level terms with the bottom placed side as the final whilste drew closer, but were saved by yet another late show.
A stunning strike from Alexis Mac Allister was followed by a Cody Gakpo header – that sealed all three points for the Reds and sent them back to the top of the league.

Liverpool have handled the pressure of the title race so far, but their schedule ramps up from here. They already have another seven games scheduled in this calendar month, and will have one eye on the Europa League knockouts.
With some big games still to come, manager Jurgen Klopp may need to prioritise league or cup – as his side has suffered with heavy injuries this term.
Some of their big names, including Thiago Alcantara, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota remain as long term absentees.
Midfielder Wataru Endo could return to the side after missing the midweek clash.
Previous Meetings
The two most decorated English football clubs have met 241 times across their histories, and twice so far this season.
They played out a goalless draw in the league’s reverse fixture at Anfield back in December – and then went toe-to-toe in an enthralling FA Cup quarter-final tie just three weeks ago.
The Red Devils totted up their 91st victory over their Merseyside rivals in extra time to reach the competitions last four, and spoil the party for Jurgen Klopp in his last season as manager.
