Potter looking forward to next challenge amid England links

Graham Potter has said he is ready to return to management and looking forward to the next challenge amid speculation linking him with the England job.

Gareth Southgate has stepped down from his role as England manager after Euro 2024, calling time on his eight-year spell in charge of the Three Lions following the final defeat to Spain earlier this month.

Potter has been placed at the forefront of the conversation to replace Southgate with the ex-Chelsea and Brighton boss considered one of the leading English candidates.

The 49-year-old has been without a club since being sacked at Chelsea in April 2023, following an ill-fated seven-month spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Despite that disappointment, Potter remains highly-regarded at the FA and is under consideration for the vacant position.

Speaking on his future, Potter said he has declined opportunities since leaving Chelsea but feels ready to return in the right role.

โ€œI’d like to wish [Southgate] well, I hope he has a nice break, and wish him well for whatever he decides to do next,” Potter said, as per the Evening Standard.

“I spoke to a few clubs but it wasn’t the right thing,” he continued on his own future.

โ€œIt was important I was patient and waited for the right opportunity and took the time with the family to reflect and think about what I wanted to do.

โ€œNow I’m in that good place where I’m happy to be ready and looking forward to the next challenge.โ€
