Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou admitted his side lacked concentration or discipline during Saturday’s home defeat to Wolves in the Premier League.ย
Joao Gomes put the visitors ahead just before halftime, but Dejan Kulusevski equalised almost immediately after the interval.
It was the Brazilian midfielder, though, who found the winner, grabbing his second of the day in the 63rd minute to hand Gary O’Neil’s side a huge victory on the road.
“We weren’t great first half,” Postecoglou told BBC Match of the Day. “We controlled the game enough but we weren’t threatening enough.
“Chasing the game is always difficult, against a team that is so good on the counter-attack, and we were made to pay for it.
“Both goals are disappointing from our point of view. We paid the price for not being as concentrated or disciplined in our football.
“It wasn’t through the lack of effort. We had them camped in their half and then they break and score the goal. You can’t keep coming from behind and doing that every week. We need to be better in the first half.
“We have had injuries all year and certainly performed better than that.”
Asked if the defeat rules Spurs out of the title race completely, the Australian responded: “We are chasing trying to be the best possible team we can and progress this year to build something. That doesn’t change. Our focus is on trying to finish strong and developing our football team.”
The result leaves Spurs fifth in the Premier League table after Aston Villa leapfrogged them into the top four thanks to a 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. They’re not in action again until 2nd March when they host Crystal Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
