Postecoglou pleased as Spurs overcome ‘anxiety’ against Burnley

Ange Postecoglou was pleased as Tottenham overcame the ‘anxiety’ of their recent losing run to beat Burnley in North London.

Spurs entered the clash on a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats but returned to winning ways with a come-from-behind win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jacob Bruun Larsen opened the scoring for Burnley but Pedro Porro’s hit levelled just seven minutes later.

Micky van de Ven scored the winner for Spurs eight minutes from time, a goal that keeps alive the club’s Champions League hopes and condemned the visitors to Premier League relegation.

“We were dominant enough, their keeper was outstanding today and we had enough chances,” the Australian told BBC Sport.

“It’s always difficult when you lose four matches in a row and it is only natural there will be a bit of anxiety and a bit of stress there.

“For the most part I think we handled the game well and we finished the game strong.

“It should have been a more comfortable victory but the most important thing is we won the game.”

Postecoglou reserved praise for match-winner Van de Ven and hailed the Dutch defender’s impact in his debut Premier League campaign.

“He’s not a bad player is he? He’s outstanding and that’s the exciting thing for me – it is his first year in Premier League football,” he said to BBC Match of the Day.

“Same with Destiny [Udogie], Pape Sarr and [Guglielmo] Vicario, too. We have so much growth in this team and Micky is at the forefront of that.

“I can’t think of too many players who have made such an impact in their first year of Premier League football, and knowing he only really had one year in the Bundesliga. It’s not like he’s a seasoned professional.

“He has had a few injury problems but when he’s played he has been outstanding.”
