Chelsea’s new signing Christian Pulisic has been discussing what position he expects to play in for his new club.
The American international’s £57 million transfer has been the big story of the January window so far and the 20-year-old is clearly eager to get started when he arrives in West London in the summer, after being loaned back to Dortmund for the remainder of the season.
“You have to go in and earn your spot and prove you are worthy of being on the field,” Pulisic told ESPN.
“I think they definitely see me in one of the wider areas, but I think they also know that I can play kind of anywhere across the attack. So I’m ready for wherever I need to be filled in really.”
The young Dortmund star has excelled in his career so far. But he has predominately played out wide for the German club. Chelsea do currently have options in those positions in Hazard, Willian and Pedro, so Pulisic would face considerable competition for a first team place.
However, he is clearly willing to play anywhere across Chelsea’s forward line and is under no illusions about the task he faces to win regular starting berth.
With constant speculation about Hazard’s future, Chelsea may well view their new arrival as the Belgian’s natural successor, although the Blues are still hopeful of convincing their number 10 to stay at Stamford Bridge.
