Pogba reveals he snubbed Manchester City transfer

Paul Pogba has revealed that he turned down a move to Manchester City when leaving Manchester United in 2022.

Pogba left Manchester United as a free agent that summer after six seasons at Old Trafford and rejoined former club Juventus on a Bosman deal.

The France international has endured a torrid time since returning to Turin, where he made just eight Serie A appearances due to injury before being banned in September 2023 for failing a doping test.

Pogba’s ban will end in March 2025, though he is unlikely to return at Juventus with discussions ongoing over the termination of his contract with the Italian side.

The 31-year-old is desperate to make up for lost time as he weighs up his future and has revealed how close he came to a shock transfer in 2022.

Pogba has confirmed that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City made an approach to sign him from Manchester United, as the Citizens sought to land the free agent from their fierce rivals.

However, he turned down the opportunity in favour of returning to Juventus, where he won four consecutive league titles during his first spell with the Bianconeri, before an £89m world record move to the Premier League in 2016.

“Yes, I turned down Pep Guardiola’s approach to accept Juventus proposal. That story is true.” Pogba told Gazzetta.
