France midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed details of the inspirational team talk he gave to his team-mates before his sides 4-2 World Cup final victory over Croatia yesterday.
The Manchester United midfielder was instrumental in Les Blues claiming their second World title, capping another mature performance with a superb left footed finish from the edge of the box.
Pogba admitted afterwards that he had encouraged his team-mates by telling them a victory would be remembered in France for generations to come:
“It is a dream since I was a young boy. I hope we have made the people proud,” Pogba revealed in the post match press conference.
“I told everyone before the game, ‘We are 90 minutes away from realising our dream, we are 90 minutes from entering into history books for life, and we were 90 minutes away from making France rock — even children, and their children, will know about this.
“So guys, we can do this. There are two teams and a Cup and we are not going to let another team take this Cup.’
“That is all I told them.”
