Pochettino to continue trust in young Chelsea team

Mauricio Pochettino has called Chelsea’s faith in young talent ‘the solution’ as he looks to build a successful side at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have endured an up and down campaign in the Premier League, with the west Londoners sat tenth in the table despite their record-breaking spend in recent windows.

The Blues have focused their recruitment on emerging names, investing in young talent with an aim to secure the club’s long-term future.

Cole Palmer has been one of the success stories and will return to former club Manchester City this weekend, having struggled for opportunities at the Etihad before his summer switch to Chelsea.

Ahead of the clash, Pochettino discussed Chelsea’s belief in their inexperienced squad at his pre-match press conference.

“Because it is part of the solution. I think they need to feel sometimes the pain of how we play.

“It is difficult to grow and mature, the most important thing is how you manage those situations.

“Then it is up to them to reach their limit to that we think they have.”

Enzo Fernandez is one player who has shown improvement of late with the midfielder having scored in back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. Pochettino has been impressed with Fernandez but believes the Argentine is capable of more.

“I think he has the capacity to run [more] and it is improving us a lot and we can see him building from the back and then arriving at score goals.

“It is a sign he is improving a lot because at the beginning he was a more static and not covering space.

“He is a player with the capacity to play box-to-box and can score goals.”
