Mauricio Pochettino has urged Tottenham to focus as they prepare to face ‘very competitive’ Everton this weekend.
Spurs qualified for the Champions League final for the first time in the club’s history in midweek, progressing on away goals following a stunning comeback against Dutch side Ajax in the semi-finals.
Tottenham will face Liverpool in an all-English final on June 1, though Pochettino has urged his side to focus when they face Everton in the final game of the Premier League season on Sunday.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to finish well,” Pochettino told his pre-match press conference.
“Of course it’s better to finish third than fourth but the objective is to finish in the top four and it’s almost done but we have one more game.”
Prior to Sunday’s fixture Pochettino was full of praise for Everton, with the in-form visitors having won five of their past seven league fixtures. Marco Silva’s side have also kept six clean sheets in that period, with Pochettino expecting a tough encounter against the ‘very competitive’ Merseyside club.
“Everton has great momentum, very competitive and they finish the season very well. They have very good players and it’s normal that they’re going to come here to compete.
“They had a clear week to prepare. We cannot be distracted, we need to be focused on our game.”
