Pochettino praises refereeā€™s character after late Spurs equaliser

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochetino has praised the referee’s character after he made the difficult decision to award a 95th minute penalty at Anfield.

Liverpool thought they had won the game after Mo Salah scored a wonderful winner in the 93rd minute, before referee Jon Moss pointed to the spot just moments later. Harry Kane made amends for an earlier missed penalty, and slammed the ball into the back of the next to ensure they returned to North London with a point, and within touching distance of the top four still.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino singled the referee out for praise after he made some very difficult decisions at crucial times in the game:

“I congratulated the referee for showing that sort of character.

“It was difficult to know at the time if they were right but in the dressing room I confirmed that they were right in every single decision.

“Sometimes we complain about them. I don’t as I decided a long time ago to stop complaining. It’s important to recognise when they are right because it’s a very difficult job for them.”

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp did not see it the same way and criticised the officials performance. Read what the German had to say.
