Mauricio Pochettino has answered questions about the links to the job at Real Madrid, and has done so in a very peculiar way.
The Argentine has long been touted as a future manager of Los Blancos after the impressive job he has done to turn Tottenham Hotspur from serial ’nearly-men’ into regular top four finishers – and has done so by playing some fine football.
With Julen Lopetegui having been sacked by Real Madrid following their dismal start to the season, and with Antonio Conte reportedly ruling himself out of the job, the speculation linking Pochettino with a move to the Bernabeu has only increased, especially after he admitted that he considers Spurs’ current start to the season as being his worst at the club.
However, while fending off questions about the interest, he has described Real Madrid’s interest as when ‘another woman is looking at you’:
“It is like you are with your wife and you are holding hands, walking down the street,” Pochettino told the Guardian.
“But because you are so handsome, another woman is looking at you. But your wife is so proud and, rather than worrying, she is so happy to be with you and falls more in love with you.”
However, he did go on to say that it is an exciting time to be at Tottenham:
“I think the period today at the club, at Tottenham, is so exciting,” he continued.
“When you assess Tottenham, they are in the middle of the journey, in the middle to arrive in the harbour.
“I think we’re strong enough to sort out all the problems and arrive, and in the end to achieve what the club and fans deserve. In the end all we want to achieve one day is to win trophies.”
