Mauricio Pochettino has hailed Conor Gallagher as ‘priceless’ for Chelsea after the midfielder scored twice in the club’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace.
Gallagher followed his first goal of the season against Aston Villa in midweek with a double to down Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, returning to haunt the side he represented successfully on loan in 2021/22.
The 24-year-old’s return to goalscoring form has been a major boost for Pochettino and his team, with Gallagher having ignored speculation surrounding a potential exit in the January transfer window to impress in recent weeks.
Pochettino was full of praise for the England international and said Gallagher’s contribution offensively and defensively from midfield is ‘priceless’ to his side.
“[Conor] is a player with a great commitment to the team and he tries to compensate in an offensive and defensive position, and that is priceless,” Pochettino said at his post-match press conference.
“I’m so happy for him and the team because it’s an important three points.
“Conor was always the player that arrived before the second line with the possibility to score. Conor is a player who loves to run and use the freedom to play when we have the ball.
“He is very consistent in dropping back and helping the team in a defensive situation as well. I think he is a player who has been doing a fantastic job since the beginning of the season.”
