Pochettino: Eriksen needs ‘freedom’ just like my dog

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has compared star playmaker Christian Eriksen to his dog.

Denmark international Eriksen has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League since moving to North London from Ajax in 2013.

However, he is yet to sign a new contract at Spurs with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, and the 26-year-old is reportedly a target for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Pochettino doesn’t seem overly worried about his talented attackers contract situation though, insisting that Eriksen simply needs to be allowed run free, just like a dog in a park.

“Maybe sign next week or in six months. He’s a very special person.’’ Pochettino told a pre-match press conference today.

”You need to give freedom, like on the pitch, can’t put him in the box. Like my dog, when you go in the park, you have to give freedom and trust.”

Spurs face Manchester United this Sunday at Wembley in what is being billed as the game of the weekend in the Premier League.
