Pochettino: Alli needs ‘pressure’ to thrive

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that it is only when attacking midfielder Dele Alli is under pressure that he produces his best football.

Despite still only being 22, Alli has scored an impressive 39 goals and provided 27 assists in just 114 Premier League appearances for the North London outfit.

However, he has come in for some criticism for his performances at both international and club level in recent times.

Against Chelsea last weekend though, the England international looked back to his very best scoring the opener in his sides 3-1 win and winning his individual battle with the Blues midfield metronome Jorginho.

Speaking ahead of his sides crunch Champions League clash against Inter Milan tonight at Wembley praised the talented youngsters’ mentality.

“When he is under pressure he is unbelievable,” said Pochettino at his pre-match press conference.

“He loves a challenge. He is a winner. His mentality is that he gets bored quickly when he doesn’t feel the pressure.”
