Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says that him and his teammates need to find their consistency in what has been a highly inconsistent season.
Much was expected of Everton this campaign, who had replaced the miserable football of Sam Allardyce with the more forward-thinking style of Marco Silva. However, after 24 games, the Toffees have only picked up 33 points, and are 12 points behind the ‘big six’.
The Blue’s form this season has more ups and downs than the Merseyside skyline, with Marco Silva’s men winning just three of their last 10 Premier League outings, drawing two, and losing the other five, while also being dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship strugglers, Millwall.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s tough test against Wolves – who currently sit two points ahead of the Toffees in seventh – England and Everton keeper Pickford has called on his teammates to be more consistent.
“I think we showed a lot of character [against Huddersfield],” Pickford told the official Everton website. “Now we need to step up and keep that level high.
“We’ve got to go into every game and be resilient as a unit. We kept a clean sheet and a lot of hard work went into it.
“We were very disappointed at the weekend to go out of the [FA} Cup, as a group of players and as a club we wanted to go further than we did.
“But the important thing was to bounce back and I think we showed character and got the win.
“Now it’s about finishing as high up the table as we can. We know it’s going to be tough but it’s all about going on a good run.
“We want to get back-to-back wins and go on a run. We’ve been a bit too inconsistent this season and we need to get that consistency level up.”
