Foden says it is a ‘pleasure to play’ with ‘demanding’ Haaland

Phil Foden says it is a ‘pleasure to play’ with Erling Haaland and believes only the Manchester City forward is capable of breaking his goal record from last season.

Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions during a record-breaking debut campaign at the Etihad, a return which included a Premier League record 36 goals in the league alone.

Foden admits Haaland’s goalscoring feats mean his teammates now expect the Norwegian to find the net each game, insisting it will be difficult for any forward to match his achievements from last season – unless Haaland breaks his own record.

“With Erling, you go into the game thinking he’s going to score every game. It’s a nice feeling for us attackers, it takes the pressure off you,” Foden told the BBC’s Football Focus.

“I love the way he is, he always demands more from himself, he’s not happy with the way he is and he’s still so young.

“What he did last season, I don’t think we’ll see it again unless he breaks his own record! He’s so demanding on himself and if we can find him in those areas he’s always going to be in the right position. He’s got this instinct for goal and it’s just a pleasure to play with someone that good.”
