Since the extremely premature birth of his son, Mateo, David Silva has switched on and off from his duties as the attacking maestro of Man City’s high-powered attack. Will he see a reduced minute load for the remainder of the season?
Man City fans and coach Pep Guardiola understands that some matters are “bigger than football,” and everyone in the City community are encouraging him to spend as much time with his family as he needs in such a stressful time.
The Spanish star has most recently utilised the International break to support his family emotionally. He went home to Valencia rather than travel with the Spanish national team to face Germany last Friday.
Luckily for Silva, the family troubles have come at a time when City’s weekly league ties are of decreasing importance. Guardiola’s side are just a couple of weeks away from potentially securing the title in their match against local rivals Manchester United. After that, however, weekends open themselves up for Silva to spend time more consistently in Valencia.
Regardless of how City’s season sorts itself out in the following months, football fans everywhere will keep David and his son in their hearts.
