Ayoze Perez thinks that Newcastle are now safe from relegation after he scored the only goal against Leicester this evening.
In what was a battle of two former Liverpool bosses, it was Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle who got the better of Brendan Rodgers resurgent Leicester side, with the Magpies hanging on to a 1-0 win.
Ayoze Perez’s 32nd minute header settled the tie at the King Power Stadium to move Newcastle onto 38 points, 10 points clear of Cardiff City in the drop zone.
Speaking after the game, the Spanish forward thinks that tonight’s three points will ensure the North East club’s Premier League status for a further season.
“I always believe in the cross, Matt Ritchie has got a good delivery so it was a great goal. The team showed great character to get three points,” Perez told Sky Sports.
“38 points should be enough and that means a lot. The team has worked really hard this season and we can say we are a Premier League team for next season.”
