Pep Guardiola comments on Man City future as contract winds down

Pep Guardiola has responded to the speculation surrounding his future at Man City as he enters the final year of his contract.ย

The Catalan tactician has not put pen to paper on a new deal at the club, leading to suggestions that he could leave when his contract expires next summer.

The 2024/25 season will be the 53-year-old’s ninth in the dugout at Man City, leading the team to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a maiden Champions League and host of other honours during that time.

Guardiola has left the door open to extending his time at Eastlands to a full decade, insisting that he has not ruled out the possibility of staying on at City.

“When I’m leaving, I will say I’m leaving, but I didn’t say that,” he told reporters this week.

“We will see what happens. But I will not rule it out absolutely to extend my contract. I would love to stay because I would love to stay.

“Nine years today in the same club is an eternity. So I want to be sure it’s the right decision. Not just for me, for the club, for the players.

“Still they run like they ran for eight years, it doesn’t matter the competition, it doesn’t matter the tournament and this is what I have to see.

“I am sure eight more years I won’t stay! It’s good to refresh, for players and managers.

“At the same time we have had success and are still winning Premier Leagues, arriving in the last stages and we are playing competitions like the Champions League. This is my feeling right now.”

Asked if the club plan on making more signings after bringing in Savio from Troyes, Guardiola replied: “Right now, no. If someone leaves at the end, maybe. But if no one leaves, I think we’ll stay as we are”.
