Pellegrini pleased with West Ham intensity after 8-0 thrashing of Macclesfield

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has said he was pleased with his team’s intensity after they put League Two side Macclesfield Town to the sword.

Having grabbed a 0-0 draw against an unbeaten Chelsea side at the weekend, West Ham continued their revival in form with a resounding 8-0 win over the fourth tier side.

Goals from Michail Antonio, Robert Snodgrass (2), Lucas Perez, Ryan Fredericks, Angelo Ogbonna and debutant Grady Diangana secure the Hammers comfortable passage to the Carabao Cup fourth round, and left their manager pleased with their efforts.

“We played with intensity and we tried to continue playing in the same way,” Pellegrini said in his post-match press conference.

“A lot of the time when you play against a lower league team you don’t play with the same pace, and you think you can walk to victory but we were very professional.

“I talked to the players before the game, and said that it’s up to us to make the difference. You have to play with intensity and you can’t underestimate your rival and for me the best thing we did is that we didn’t underestimate them.”
