The future of Mesut Ozil rumbles on and on, with rumours in Germany suggesting he could be set to return to the Bundesliga.

Ozil has a little over six months on his contract at the Emirates, meaning he is free to enter into a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January onwards ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.

He has been linked with a move to Manchester United, while some reports have linked him with a return to Spain with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also interested.

However, according to Kicker, Bundesliga club Schalke are interested in signing the playmaker. Ozil started his career at Schalke, before moving to Wolfsburg and on to Real Madrid and Arsenal.

However, whether they would be able to match the 29-year-olds wage demands is yet to be seen.

Ozil has reportedly demanded £330,000-a-week at Arsenal, a figure that the Gunners have refused to meet.
