Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil made the headlines for the right reasons today when the former Germany international scored in the Gunners 2-1 win away to Newcastle.
The 29-year-old was making his 200th appearance – although he didn’t actually seem aware of it – for Arsenal since his £42.5 million move to the Emirates from Real Madrid in 2013.
Ozil’s relationship with new Gunners boss Unai Emery has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, but the talented attacker revealed after today’s game that he enjoys playing under his sides new coach.
“Really, 200? I’m happy but most important we take the three points. Congratulations to the whole team, we played well. Newcastle were good, aggressive. We showed our passion and took the points.’’ Ozil told the BBC.
“I am very happy to play for Arsenal and especially for the new coach. He knows what he wants and the team accepts that, we have a good relationship. We score and we are happy, even the players that don’t play, we are all team.”
