Ozil agent inists Arsenal outcast will not leave this summer

The agent of Mesut Ozil has insisted that his client will not be leaving Arsenal this summer, despite seemingly falling out-of-favour under Mikel Arteta.

The 31-year-old has been restricted to just 18 Premier League appearances this season, and was not used at all following the league’s restart last month.

Having been an unused substitute against Brighton and Southampton last month, Ozil was then not seen again in a matchday squad for the rest of the season, the playmaker initially being ruled out with a back injury.

The former Germany midfielder took to Twitter to declare himself ‘Ready’ before Arteta admitted his prolonged absence from the 20 man squad was down to ‘pure football reasons’.

Ozil has proved a divisive figure in recent years amid a perceived lack of work rate, and Arsenal are now reportedly keen to get the midfielder – and his wages – off the books amid interest from Fenerbahce.

However, Ozil’s agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, has insisted his client will only leave the north London club upon the expiry of his contract next summer.

“I think Mesut Özil has not changed his mind. He will continue [at Arsenal] until the summer of 2021, he only has one year left on his contract. Nothing has changed. He is an Arsenal player,” Sogut said, as per Fanatik.

“In 2021, it’s 90 per cent he will leave Arsenal. What can be said is that he will go to play in another club.

“He could play in Asia or America. Of course, Turkey is also an option.”
