Former Arsenal favourite Marc Overmars has claimed that Alexis Sanchez could make a sensational return to the London club in the future.

The Chilean left the Gunners last January for Manchester United, and while he has been making truck loads of money at Old Trafford, he has not been able to replicate the same kind of form that earned him so many plaudits at Arsenal and Barcelona.

Dutch legend Overmars questioned Sanchez’s wisdom in leaving the Emirates Stadium in the first place, but believes he would be welcomed back with open arms.

“I have great respect for Alexis, because he did extremely well in Arsenal, I do not know if it was a good decision to leave,” Overmars told ADN Radio.

“English football changes you, it turns you around, it took me a step forward. Arsene Wenger arrived a year before me, Dennis Bergkamp made a big impression in England, it was a fantastic time, I think we changed the history of the club a bit.”

“These type of players were very important for Arsenal, because that’s where they take you to focus, after Alexis, Arsenal tried to sign another player like that, but he was not given, so he could go back to Arsenal.”

Currently working as director of football at Ajax, Overmars has been linked with taking over the same role at Arsenal, making his Sanchez comments all the more interesting.
