Ousmane Dembele will not be leaving Barcelona this summer, despite reports linking him with a potential move to Liverpool or Arsenal.
The Frenchman became one of the worlds most expensive signings when he swapped the yellow shirt of Borussia Dortmund for the historic red and blue of Barcelona for over €100 million.
However, he has had a difficult debut campaign at the Nou Camp, picking up a serious knee injury, and subsequently struggling to make a significant impact as Barcelona strolled to their 25th league title. He made just 12 starts in the league for the Blaugrana, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
He has been linked with moves to the Premier League, with Arsenal and most recently Liverpool thought to be interested, but Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has suggested that the youngster is going nowhere:
“[Philippe] Coutinho, Dembele are for us a big investment,” he said. “They are very important players that we expect from them a lot.
“Coutinho probably in the last four months has been very active for the team. But Dembele is a very young player, a very talented player that we are, of course, expecting from him a lot. He’s been demonstrating during the season that he’s a good young player for us. But, of course, next season will be different.
“It’s not easy to play in Barcelona the first year because the model of football is quite different from the rest. But after one year I’m sure we are going to see Dembele and Coutinho at a very high level.”
