‘Here we go’ – Ex-Osimhen teammate hints transfer is close

Former Nigeria international John Ogu has hinted that Victor Osimhen is nearing a move to Chelsea.

Ogu played alongside Osimhen for the Super Eagles and has taken to social media to suggest a transfer to the Premier League is close. Amid ongoing speculation surrounding Osimhen’s future, Ogu posted ‘OSIMHEN TO CHELSEA… Here we go!!!’ on his X account.

Chelsea have been in negotiations with Napoli over a deal for Osimhen but have so far been frustrated in attempts to agree a deal. However, the Blues have been handed a boost with competitors Paris Saint-Germain unlikely to make a late move to sign the Napoli forward.

PSG held negotiations with Napoli over a deal to sign Osimhen earlier in the transfer window but baulked at the Italian side’s demands.

However, a fractured ankle for Goncalo Ramos is set to sideline the PSG forward for three months and had led to suggestions that PSG could revisit the deal before the transfer deadline.

The French champions are considering signing a centre-forward before the transfer window closes but a move for Osimhen is unlikely, despite the Nigerian’s interest in a move to Paris. Sky Germany are reporting that PSG will pursue a ‘more affordable’ option should the club move for a striker.

Chelsea remain interested in signing Osimhen and PSG’s stance boosts the Blues’ hopes of agreeing a deal. However, Osimhen’s wage demands have proven problematic and the 25-year-old uninterested in a loan move to the Premier League without a mandatory purchase option.

Osimhen has scored 77 goals in 136 appearances for Napoli and was named African Footballer of the Year in 2023 after leading Serie A for goals, as the Italian side won the title for the first time in 33 years.
