The agent of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is in Manchester to hold talks over a potential move to Manchester United.
United are exploring goalkeeping options with uncertainty surrounding the future of David de Gea, whose contract is set to expire next week with no agreement reached on an extension.
Onana has emerged as a potential replacement for the Spaniard after an excellent debut season at Inter Milan, one which saw the Cameroon international impress as Inter reached the Champions League final. The 27-year-old led the competition for clean sheets, high claims and saves, and previously worked under Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
According to Sky Sports, the player’s agent was in Manchester on Thursday to discuss a potential move to the Premier League. Inter will demand a fee of around €50m for Onana, who signed for the club on a free transfer from Ajax last summer.
De Gea’s 12-year spell at Manchester United appears increasingly set to end with no agreement reached on a contract extension. United had hoped to agree a new deal on reduced terms for the 32-year-old, but negotiations have failed to find a breakthrough.
The Red Devils are reluctant to offer the Spaniard a significant extension on his current terms with reservations over De Gea’s suitability to Ten Hag’s demands. However, a new deal had been discussed with United working on a restricted transfer budget given the club’s uncertain takeover situation.
