Nuno keen to move on from Nottingham Forest VAR complaints

Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to move on from the controversy surrounding Nottingham Forest’s defeat at Everton last month.

Forest took to social media with an astonishing post criticising the officials and VAR at Goodison Park, having had three penalty appeals turned down in the 2-0 defeat.

All three incidents involved Everton defender Ashley Young, though Anthony Taylor waved away the appeals with VAR failing to intervene.

Forest then took the step of publicly calling out the PGMOL on X (Twitter), questioning the decision to have Stuart Attwell, a fan of relegation rivals Luton Town, on VAR.

Mark Clattenburg, working with Forest as the club’s refereeing consultant, also called the decisions a ‘hat-trick of howlers’ and ‘mind-boggling to watch’.

The PGMOL have since released audio of the decision process and Howard Webb, head of Premier League referees, admitted Nottingham Forest should have been awarded a penalty in the game.

Everton have since confirmed their Premier League status, while Forest sit a point above the relegation places ahead of a crucial trip to Sheffield United this weekend.

Ahead of that game, Nuno said at his pre-match press conference that he wants to forget the fury and focus on football.

“I still believe that the three of them are the other way but he came to the decision, the observation of the PGMOL, and said that the third one was a penalty. Unfortunately they got it wrong.

“It happened before, in many situations, that we had decided and then [they] said it was the other way round. You cannot be bothered by that.

“What we expect is everything to go well and good decisions, good refereeing, not interfering with the result. Let’s move forward.”
