Newcastle United travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday evening looking to build on a morale-boosting Premier League win over Crystal Palace.
Matthias Jaissle’s side had lost three of their previous four matches before beating Palace 2-0 on Sunday, a result that eased the pressure on the head coach and lifted Newcastle to eighth in the table, two points off the top five and five clear of the relegation zone. Newcastle are bidding to win the EFL Cup for the second time in three seasons, and no side has won more ties in the competition than their 18 since the start of the 2022-23 campaign.
Newcastle United team news
Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley are doubts with illness and a knock respectively, while Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen remain out through injury. Jaissle is set to stick with the “same approach” and name a relatively strong lineup, having done so in the previous two rounds, with Harvey Barnes and William Osula, both scorers at Palace, expected to keep their places in attack. Newcastle reached this round with a 3-2 home win over West Bromwich Albion in round two and a narrow 1-0 success at Millwall in round three.
Yoane Wissa, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey, the latter two recently back from injury, are all hoping to force their way into the starting XI. Newcastle have won just one of their last six meetings with Everton, but have won each of their last seven EFL Cup fourth-round ties and are bidding to reach the quarter-finals for a fifth season running.
